Scheduling an Appointment

How to Schedule a Face-to-Face Tutorial

Appointments can be scheduled for our main location, room 174 Harvey Hall.  Before you schedule an appointment, please look at the information below and then get an idea of what to expect at your appointment.

You're just a few shorts steps away from learning how to be a stronger writer!

  1. Please call (715) 232-5284 to schedule a tutorial; because we have a limited number of available appointments per week, please call ahead.

  2. You may schedule one 60 minute or two 30 minute tutorials per day, and two 60 minute or four 30 minute tutorials per week.

  3. If you must cancel an appointment, please call to notify the Center staff.

  4. If you skip three scheduled appointments, you will lose your privilege to use the Center for the semester.

Walk-In Tutorials in our Satellite Tutoring Locations

You do not need to make an appointment to have a tutorial. Just come in with your assignment and any additional handouts or resources that you need and you can get help, provided there is an tutor who is available.

Online Tutorials for Online Students

* At this time, online tutorials are only available to students who are enrolled in an online course at UW-Stout. *

** Please note that we do not provide tutoring services for Master's theses or Plan B projects. See our note to graduate students.**

  1. Complete an Online Tutorial Request Form, making sure to complete all of the required fields and give as much information as possible about the assignment. Remember that the information you provide allows us to match you with a suitable tutor and gives the tutor background on the assignment that allows them to provide the best feedback.

  2. Once the Center has received this information, you will be notified that your paper has been forwarded on to a specific tutor. Please note that you will not be assigned a tutorial until you provide the information in #1.

  3. The tutor will make comments on your draft and submit it back to you via e-mail. Due to the involved nature of online tutoring, please allow 48 hours during the business week from the time your paper is forwarded to the tutor to the time your essay is returned to you. Generally, requests submitted after 2pm on Friday will not forwarded to tutors until the following Monday morning.  Please plan accordingly and feel free to contact us with questions.

Notes About Online Tutoring

  1. Your tutor will utilize the comment function in MSWord to provide you with feedback.
  2. Your tutor will not edit or fix your paper, but will offer constructive feedback and specific suggestions for improvement, especially as they relate to the major concerns you've outlined.
  3. Remember that your tutor will only be available to help you during his/her regularly scheduled Center hours.
  4. If you wish to make subsequent online tutorial appointments, please follow the same procedure as noted above; however, you can request a specific tutor. (In order for us to maintain a consistent procedure, please never e-mail your tutor directly to set up an appointment).
  5. We offer tutoring during fall and spring semesters only (not during holidays, Winterm or during the summer). If you have a question about whether or not tutoring is currently being offered, please call the Writing Center.
