We will use personal information that you provide via e-mail or through other online means only for purposes necessary to serve your needs, such as responding to an inquiry or other request for information. This may involve redirecting your inquiry or comment to another person or department better suited to meeting your needs. 

Some webpages at UW-Stout may collect personal information about visitors and use that information for purposes other than those stated above. Each webpage that collects information will have a separate privacy statement that will tell you how that information is used. 

Collected Information 

UW-Stout monitors network traffic for the purposes of site management and security. We use this information to help diagnose problems and carry out other administrative tasks. We also use statistic information to determine which information is of most interest to users, to identify system problem areas, or to help determine technical requirements. The server log information does not include personal information.

UW-Stout is part of the University of Wisconsin System one of the largest systems of public higher education in the country, serving approximately 180,000 students each year and employing more than 39,000 faculty and staff statewide. The UW System is made up of 13 four-year universities, 13 freshman-sophomore UW Colleges campuses, and statewide UW-Extension. Together, these institutions are a tremendous academic, cultural, and economic resource for Wisconsin, the nation, and the world.

Suspension of CommonSpot site development

In order to expedite the University’s 2016-2018 web site conversion and redesign, the Web Oversight Committee has suspended further development and redesign of existing CommonSpot sub-sites. Beginning on January 25, 2016, the University’s 175 existing sub-sites will undergo extensive content inventories and audits. The content audits will be reviewed with departments and units prior to the site conversion to the new Drupal CMS or content migration to SharePoint. 

The creation of new CommonSpot sub-sites, or the reorganization of an existing sub-site, will only be authorized for health and safety content. CommonSpot authors will continue to maintain day-to-day updates on their assigned sub-sites. CommonSpot technical assistance will continue to be available through email to

The UW-Stout Web site is published by University Marketing, which provides the design, structure, navigation and editorial conventions and oversees official university content. Official content includes all Web sites, regardless of where they are hosted, that communicate or conduct business on behalf of the university or its departments, offices or units.

Technical services on the site are provided by Enterprise Information Systems, which is part of Learning and Information Technology.
